Revolutionizing Urban Tourism: The UT-X by SongMing Fan

Innovative Transportation Design for Tourist Districts

SongMing Fan's inspiration for the UT-X came from the need for a more efficient and enjoyable way to explore tourist districts. The UT-X allows visitors to lease and use the vehicle in a circular route, facilitating easy navigation around tourist hotspots. The design encourages passengers to stand halfway in the vehicle, reducing space wastage and maintaining the viewpoint of walking.

The UT-X stands out from other designs due to its unique properties. It is designed to facilitate better communication between passengers with a side-by-side seating arrangement. Furthermore, the steering wheel is centrally placed, enabling control by both passengers and fostering a sense of shared responsibility and interaction.

The UT-X is primarily composed of ABS material, with strategic use of carbon fiber and other materials to balance the weight of the entire body. This ensures better balance and a refined, product-like feel. Metal embellishments in certain areas further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the design. The technical specifications of the UT-X are 1170mm×1250mm×1980mm.

The design was realized in China between June and August 2016. The project was exhibited in China in August 2016. The underlying research for the UT-X focused on creating a special transportation design for short-distance passenger transport in Shanghai. The aim was to ease traffic pressure while facilitating friendly interaction between people.

The main challenge faced during the design process was creating a transportation solution that could replace walking for tourists without compromising the experience. The UT-X successfully addresses this issue by allowing passengers to maintain their original walking viewpoint while traveling in comfort.
